Ti sei ispirato a qualche fiaba?

ENGLISH

Just listen to his latest album “Particles of Bliss” on Traum Schallplatten to realize that Ryan Davis is a music philosopher. Among the difficulties that life presents us every day, he conceives music as salvation, as an opportunity to open your mind and take your feet off the ground to reach the perfect dimension to live your dreams.
Although since 2006, he caught the attention of the press and of famous colleagues, the only thing that matters to Ryan Davis is to get into the heart of his listener and, it seems, he succeeds very well.

I listen to music every day and it is rare to be struck by what goes on the records market. This did not happen for your truly sublime work “Particles of Bliss” on Traum Schallplatten. When and how did you develop the idea to make an album?
Thanks for the nice introduction. For me as an artist, I’m like a leaf on the river you know where the river moves and that you will float constantly, but you don’t know where you will stop and what you will pass. I always stopped at labels when I felt its right for me and my music. I always go on and won’t stop at one stage. This actual stage is with Traum Schallplatten and I want to stay longer as I feel the right vibes. With Traum Schallplatten the idea of an album grew bigger and bigger.. So finally I had to go with the flow. The full idea of the album is a retrospective of who I am, what I have done and where I want to go.. Everyone who walked my way with me for a while will find all those elements I’m talking about.

Your latest work offers a variety of complex sounds characterized by a “bliss” sometimes dark, sometimes reassuring. Did you create this sounds in digital or you use also analog instruments?
I mostly use software synths to be true. I have some sample banks which I did with analog instruments by friends, but mainly I produce only with software at the moment. The secret behind the analog sounding stuff I do is maybe, that I always try to include a warmth in all of my tracks and leave the natural full spectrum of the samples I use.

“The enchanted garden” and “Dragonheart” are the two tracks that open and close your album. Their content is something magical, as well as their titles. Have you been inspired by some fairy tale?
For the album I wanted to find some names I could project on what I have in mind and what surrounds me in my life. I love secret and magic places.. Like the enchanted garden or watching a beluga whale passing by on the big oceans. I think about subjects like how one life influences the other and if they are entangled like its told about in the field theory I want people to live their dreams and put their heads more often in the clouds then being too much down to earth.. Walking around with eyes wide open and see the details and beauty in life a lot of people forgot in times of mass media and status symbols.. So you get the kind of idea how I found the titles for my tracks. “Dragonheart” is a track about tough life, about things that happen and repeat.. To stay true and real we all need kind of very big hearts and much courage.

Did you follow specific criteria to order your tracklist?
The track list came with the flow.. When I finally decided for the pieces i want to have on the album it was a question of how the tracks fit into each other.. How there will circulate the right energy trough the album while you are listening to it. To listen to a sad or easeful story alternated by louder and impulsive ones.. Going through ups and downs.. To finally finish the journey of the album with a positive feeling.

Your talent was clear since “Transformer”, your debut single. Can you tell us the training that you followed in the last six years?
The last six years the music market changed drastically also for a few years melodic techno was really underground again and in the big clubs kind of dead. It was like doing music for yourself.. Growing in silence and become better in composition and sound. Nowadays I have the strong feeling melodies coming back (thanks God) and the scene is getting bigger again.. That’s mostly what I went through the last six years.. Doing what I want to do and getting better in it (hopefully)

With “Spicyal sound” your name was known by the great names in international music such as Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Dominik Eulberg, Ivan Smagghe and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode. How much satisfaction did you feel by this recognition?
“Spicyal Sound” and “Zodiac” was two of that tracks when the labels told me first “Sorry Ryan.. But we don’t sell any of them.. or not that much..” So it was like nothing happened over months. Suddenly one of those names picked up the track like Miss Kittin or Dominik Eulberg and people recognized them they raised and got known, so I was really thankful for the support. It was surprising and I was happy to be “part” of the Depeche Mode “Sound of the Universe” tour (would love to do a remix for Depeche mode some day).. Or that it was picked up for the Robert Johnson compilation.

Very often it happens that emerging producers are diffident to send their works to major label because they are afraid that their productions are not considered. How was your experience?
I have to say.. I never sent demos to any label I’m working with atm. I just started to do my music and did what I wanted. I uploaded stuff on myspace at the beginning and was asked by a label if they could release it. Also later it was more the contact I got through artists who wanted to work with me or I wanted to work with them which brought the releases on all the other labels. This never changed.. Till today I never sent out a demo – winked –

Among your famous collaborators of the international clubbing with whom there was more empathy?
I have to say the most people I work with, I have on my skype or I’m still in a chat with.. So I remember I always wanted to have a remix of Jesse Somfay and that’s why we got in contact and he did the one for my song “Zodiac”. I remixed two of his album tracks in return.. And we are still in contact today. The most people I work with I also feel connected with their music.. I can’t work with stuff I don’t feel. Means not that I don’t like the music of all people I still didn’t worked with…

Together with Lanny May you have founded two record labels, Maripoza and Back Home. Could you tell us more about these projects? Why did you decide to create two different things and not a single label?
In fact Maripoza was the first label we founded, but we was working with other people together that time, when we had to stop doing vinyls because the major sales of the vinyl industry went down, we decided to leave Maripoza as it was and start over with Back Home as a digital label. When Lanny and I split, I did the label Back Home on my own. Lanny restarted on his own Maripoza after some time. Later I founded the label Klangwelt which divides now more clearly Back Home into the experimental, electronica label and Klangwelt itself as a more dance oriented label. On facebook you can find it as Back Home Klangwelt Kollektiv. The main idea is to give new artist the chance to take their first steps combined with some better known artist friends to give the idea a bigger spotlight.

What are the wishes that you would like to accomplish in the future?
For the future I will go on with what I´ve always done. Do what I feel. I will keep the vibe of the album doing more clubby stuff but also concentrate on more easeful productions. My wish is that more people open their mind for the people who are really trying to compose things and not just see music as part of a big party or club session.. That would change the music scene into a better place.
